Shigeyoshi and Yuriko Morioka

In 1974 a kiln was built on the Land in Amano in Wakayama prefecture, near Mt. Koya. Located in the middle of the mountains, the place has a trace of human settlement dating back to 25,000 years ago.

Shige's clay texture is simple and earthy, his pieces show his playfulness and decisiveness, as if their shape was unintentional.

In opposition of texture, Yuriko, wife of Shigeyoshi Morioka, works mostly in porcelain. She visited and learned kiln sites of South Korea to learn the local techniques. Her work represents long and deep history with her respect to the Joseon Dynasty of the nation.
