Shun Kumagai

1983 born in Akita, Japan. 2016 Learned glass in Akita. 2012-16 Toyama Glass studio. Lives and works in his own glass studio in Akita, Japan.

Phenomenon that cannot be seen by the eye taking place inside a 1000℃ kiln. The glass melts, joins with the clay and melts together with the metal. He creates the original shape for each object, makes the mold, fills it with glass and fires it. Cools it, then carefully splits the piece from the mold...Finally able to meet that molded shape which has become glass. He said ” This series of actions is similar to a prayer”.  This process creates unique color tones that can sometimes be expected and other times a surprise and gift.
